Vanity Mirror from Papineau Manor

This inlaid mahogany swivel mirror is in the George III style.
It comes from the Papineau manor, in the seigneury of La Petite-Nation, a fief held by one of the most influential families in 19th century Québec.
In large French-Canadian homes, this type of mirror was used for a simple gesture each morning: looking at oneself with kindness, before turning one’s gaze upon the world.
Like this mirror turned inward, the Museum turns our gaze outward — to see, understand, and embrace the diversity of those who built Montréal.
